Turquoise is a hydrous phosphate of copper and aluminum, with intrusions of iron. More copper content in the structure produces a blue turquoise and the more iron content produces a green turquoise. The host rock or intrusions of other minerals that are in the formations of turquoise are called matrix. In the American Southwest the most rare and expensive turquoise has a pattern of matrix called "spider web". Matrix is the color (black, brown, white ,red) of the host rock in which turquoise is formed.
